Offering an age-specific educational tool, supplies, and souvenirs focusing on the patient's developmental level and competency in order to facilitate understanding, while providing a sense of control through knowledge. By doing so, anxiety and fear is decreased and the ultimate objective is achieved… a positive perioperative experience.

The intent of this book is to offer children a personalized keepsake, while facilitating understanding of the "perioperative" process. Perioperative in the healthcare setting represents the three phases of the surgical process: Pre-op (get ready), Intra-op (surgery), and Post-Op (wake up). The storybook format serves as a guide, while providing a "show and tell" souvenir to share with family and friends. Through simple words and illustrations the goal is to educate, while decreasing fear and anxiety of the unknown. By doing so, the ultimate objective is achieved: "A Positive Perioperative Experience." (Ages 5 - 8 yrs)
